From his obit: "Marcus Hilden graduated from Glasgow High School, Glasgow, Montana, in 1927 and received his B.S. in civil engineering from Montana State College, Bozeman, Montana in 1941. On June 23, 1937, he married Mary Louise Taylor of Dillon, Montana. They had two daughters. Colene "Bunny" was born in Glasgow, Montana and Marcia was born in Hot Springs, South Dakota. Marcus Hilden was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Uhl, Hall & Rich, Engineers, and California Department of Water Resources—working on construction of Fort Peck Dam, Black Hills Ordnance Depot, Hungry Horse Dam, Niagara Power Project, Blenheim-Gilboa Power Project, as well as project planning for irrigation and power developments in Montana and the Dakotas. He was project engineer for the North San Joaquin Division of the Department of Water Resources on the construction of the first 62 miles of the California Aqueduct and Del Valle Dam. Hilden was licensed as a professional engineer in Montana, Massachusetts, and California. His work took the family to many locations in the states. He also served as a Lieutenant (j.g.), file number 404600, in the Navy during World War II as a gunnery officer, and later as a Lieutenant in the Civil Engineer Corps Reserve. Mr. Hilden was a 50-year Mason in Lodge No. 42, Kalispell, Montana, Scottish Rite, Bodies in Buffalo, New York and Stockton, California, and a member of Modesto Masonic Luncheon Club. He was a Life Fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); Board Member, Habitat for Humanity; Heifer Project, G.O.A.L., CLEAN, sNational Association of Retired Federal Employees, California Retired Public Employees Association, Rotary International and Life Member of Girl Scouts of U.S.A> He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Modesto, California. Marcus Hilden is survived by his wife, Mary Louise; two daughters, Colene ìBunnyî Gruhn of Martinez, California and Marcia Elaine Anderson of East Lansing, Michigan; four grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren." | ||||||||||||
